Kasus penyiraman pada Novel Baswedan yang telah beberapa tahun berlarut, perlahan namun pasti kini menemui titik terang.
Aksi yang membuat muka penyidik KPK menjadi rusak ini bukan merupakan kasus biasa, sehingga begitu peliknya penyidik mengungkap siapa dalang dibalik itu semua. Apa sesungguhnya motif dari si penyerang? Benarkah berkaitan dengan posisi Novel sebagai penyidik KPK? Sejumlah temuan baru terkait kasus penyerangan terhadap Novel Baswedan terungkap dari hasil investigasi Tim Gabungan Pencari Fakta ( TGPF). Tim yang telah bekerja selama 6 bulan tersebut sudah menyerahkan laporan hasil investigasi kepada Kapolri Jenderal (Pol) Tito Karnavian pada 9 Juli 2019. Setelah dipelajari Tito, tim mengungkapkan hasilnya kepada publik dalam sebuah konferensi pers di Mabes Polri, Rabu (17/7/2019). Tim mengungkapkan perihal zat kimia yang digunakan hingga adanya dugaan penggunaan kekerasan yang berlebihan oleh Novel sehingga terjadi penyerangan.
Penyerangan terhadap Novel Baswedan dilakukan pada 11 April 2017. TGPF kemudian menemukan ada keanehan yang terjadi pada 5 April 2017 dan 10 April 2017.
Berdasarkan hasil penyelidikan tim, zat kimia yang digunakan untuk menyiram wajah Novel ialah asam sulfat (H2S04). Menurut Nurkholis, zat tersebut berkadar larut dan tidak pekat sehingga tidak mengakibatkan luka berat permanen pada wajah Novel.
TGPF menyebutkan bahwa penyerangan itu dilakukan tidak dengan maksud membunuh, tapi membuat Novel menderita.
TGPF menduga bahwa penyerangan yang dialami Novel diduga akibat penggunaan kekuasaan yang berlebihan atau excessive use of power oleh Novel saat menjalankan tugas. Anggota TGPF, Hendardi, mengatakan bahwa hal itu diduga memicu pihak yang sakit hati terhadap Novel dan melakukan serangan terhadap penyidik KPK tersebut.
Menurut TGPF, terdapat enam kasus high profile dalam penanganan Novel yang diduga bisa menimbulkan serangan balik. Kasus high profile itu terdiri dari kasus dugaan korupsi kartu tanda penduduk elektronik (e-KTP); kasus mantan Ketua Mahkamah Konstitusi Akil Mochtar; kasus mantan Sekjen MA Nurhadi; kasus korupsi mantan Bupati Buol Amran Batalipu; dan kasus korupsi Wisma Atlet.
Menindaklanjuti laporan tersebut, Kapolri akan membentuk tim teknis lapangan, masih dengan tugas yang sama, yaitu mengungkap kasus tersebut.
