Hamad menegaskan rakyat Palestina siap meledakkan diri di hadapan musuh-musuhnya dengan seizin Tuhan. Ia mengatakan luapan kemarahan ini tidak hanya di Jalur Gaza dan Tepi Barat (wilayah Palestina) tapi juga di luar negeri.
Hamad menyebut ada 7 juta orang Palestina di luar negeri, yang siap menyerang orang-orang Yahudi di setiap tempat di dunia.
Seperti diketahui, Hamas merupakan salah satu fraksi besar di Palestina yang selama ini masih menguasai Gaza. Kelompok tersebut juga menggagas unjuk rasa besar-besaran sejak Maret 2018 lalu sebagai bentuk protes terhadap pendudukan Israel selama ini.

Juru bicara Perdana Menteri Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, Ofir Gendelman, mengecam pernyataan Hamad itu. Ia menyebut pernyataan Hamad adalah wujud asli Hamas. Menurut Gendelman, Hamas adalah dalang di balik kerusuhan di perbatasan Gaza.
Kecaman tak hanya datang dari Israel, pemerintah Palestina juga menyayangkan pernyataan Hamad tersebut. Sekretaris Jenderal Organisasi Pembebasan Palestina (PLO), Saeb Erekat, mengatakan pernyataan Hamad tidak mewakili pemerintah dan bangsa Palestina.
Erekat mengatakan perjuangan bangsa Palestina adalah menjunjung tinggi cinta akan kebebasan, keadilan, dan kesetaraan. Erekat menyebut Fathi Hamad tidak mewakili nilai-nilai perjuangan bangsa Palestina.
Utusan Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa (PBB) Nickolay Mladenov turut mengutuk pernyataan Hamad itu yang dianggap komentar berbahaya, menjijikkan, dan menghasut.
Hamas juga ikut mengeluarkan klarifikasi bahwa pernyataan Hamad itu tidak mewakili organisasi. Meski banyak dikecam, Hamad menegaskan dia tetap berkomitmen pada piagam Hamas yang berfokus pada "perlawanan terhadap pendudukan Zionis" atas tanah Palestina.
