Duta Besar Iran untuk PBB menuduh Amerika Serikat ( AS) mempunyai motif tertentu atas panasnya situasi yang terjadi di kawasan Timur Tengah.
Pada Senin (24/6/2019), Presiden Donald Trump menandatangani perintah eksekutif untuk memberikan sanksi baru terhadap sejumlah petinggi senior Iran.
Dalam pernyataan Trump, sanksi itu diberikan setelah Iran menghancurkan drone pengintai RQ-4A Global Hawk di Selat Hormuz pada pekan lalu, sebelum kemudian meralatnya.
Dubes Majid Takht Ravanchi membela tindakan yang dilakukan Garda Revolusi dengan mengatakan drone itu sudah melanggar wilayah udara mereka, ucapan yang dibantah Pentagon.
Dilansir Newsweek, Ravanchi menuturkan mereka tidak ingin adanya perang atau ketegangan di Teluk Persia. Namun tidak demikian halnya dengan pihak lain.
"Ini membantu mereka membenarkan keterlibatan asing dalam memperkuat militer, di mana Amerika dan negara Barat lainnya bisa menjual senjata ke negara yang bertikai," kecam Ravanchi.
Dia merujuk kepada koalisi pimpinan Arab Saudi yang didukung AS berperang melawan kelompok pemberontak Houthi di Yaman yang dituding menerima dukungan Iran.
Ravanchi juga menyoroti sanksi yang dijatuhkan Trump kepada Pemimpin Tertinggi Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Dia menyebut AS tidak menghormati hukum internasional.
Tensi sudah meningkat di Teluk Persia setelah Trump memutuskan menarik AS dari perjanjian nuklir 2015 yang diteken Iran bersama sejumlah negara besar lainnya.
Negara seperti China, Rusia, maupun Jerman masih memberikan dukungan kesepakatan itu.
Namun, Eropa mengalami kesulitan karena Washington sudah memberikan ancaman.
Karena itu, Iran kemudian mengumumkan mereka bakal melakukan pengayaan terhadap uranium dalam jumlah besar meski bersikukuh mereka tidak ingin memproduksi senjata nuklir.
Sejak Penasihat Keamanan Nasional AS John Bolton menyebut ancaman Iran terhadap kepentingan AS di kawasan, Washington segera melakukan langkah militer.
Antara lain dengan mengirim pasukan tambahan berjumlah 2.500 personel, grup serang berisi kapal induk, hingga menyiagakan pesawat pembom di Timur Tengah.
